Charles Sturt University celebrated this year’s scholarship recipients along with their donors at the scholarship presentation ceremony in Bathurst on Friday 20 May.
In 2022, 401 scholarships with a total value of $2,539,950 will be award across the University. The value of 91 scholarships presented in Bathurst is $419,850.
The ceremony in Bathurst was one of five to be held across the University’s footprint in May and June, with the other ceremonies taking place at Charles Sturt in Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Albury-Wodonga and Port Macquarie.
Chief Executive Officer of the Charles Sturt Foundation Trust Ms Sarah Ansell was delighted the scholarship presentations could take place to not only recognise the outstanding achievements of students, but also recognise the contribution of valued scholarship donors.
“It’s wonderful to be able to hold these ceremonies again as it is a tremendous honour to receive a scholarship and being able to meet and thank the people behind them is a very special occasion,” Ms Ansell said.
Bachelor of Paramedicine student Mr Eli Mitchell in the Charles Sturt School of Nursing, Paramedicine and Healthcare Services said he was extremely grateful for the financial support he received as a recipient of the Charles Sturt Rugby Alumni Scholarship.
“Receiving this scholarship has assisted me in achieving my full potential during my studies at Charles Sturt University and to enjoy every aspect of life on campus,” Mr Mitchell said.
“Being part of the executive team for the SRC and the Mitchell Rugby Club, I am grateful for the community on campus in Bathurst, and I am greatly appreciative of the recognition of my involvement in these clubs.”
A special feature of the Bathurst ceremony was the attendance of scholarship donor representative Mr John Debrincat (pictured with scholarship recipients), Chairman of the Australian Computer Science (ACS).
Mr Debrincat will receive a ‘milestone’ plaque on behalf of the ACS commemorating 20 years since ACS began its scholarship support for Charles Sturt students studying computing and information technology degrees.
The ACS established the ACS Foundation in August 2001 to facilitate the sponsorship of technology education and research projects, and its first donation to the Charles Sturt Foundation in 2002 was more than $100,000.
The partnership strengthened when the University began to support the ‘Big Day In’ on campus, and the ACS continues to collaborate with the School of Computing, Mathematics and Engineering by gathering industry feedback and providing advice on its courses.
The two recipients of ACS scholarships in the Charles Sturt School of Computing, Mathematics and Engineering in Bathurst this year are Mr Finn Ferguson (Bachelor of Computer Science) and Mr Cayden Mannes (Bachelor of Information Technology).
Scholarships are open to both domestic and international students studying any course at the University.
