Charles Sturt strengthens research ties with NSW Government and universities

Charles Sturt University has signed an historic five-year Innovation Partnerships agreement with the NSW Government to boost innovation, attract investment, and strengthen collaboration across the university sector and state.

  • New agreements between the NSW Government and NSW universities helps position NSW as the leading Australian state for university and industry collaboration
  • This partnership promotes a valuable opportunity for academics and researchers to share and develop their expertise with industry, government, and other universities
  • The agreements will support innovation across areas such as big data, artificial intelligence, cyber security, clinical innovation, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, regional development, and more

Charles Sturt University has signed an historic five-year Innovation Partnerships agreement with the NSW Government to boost innovation, attract investment, and strengthen collaboration across the university sector and state.

The University is joined by 10 other NSW universities that signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NSW Government.

Charles Sturt Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Mark Evans welcomed the MoU.

“As one of the largest regional universities in Australia, it is fitting Charles Sturt University has been included in this landmark university partnership with the NSW Government,” Professor Evans said.

“We are committed to partnering with industry, government and our communities to grow our research and drive regional outcomes with global impact.

“This partnership is a valuable opportunity for our leading academics and researchers to join forces and share their expertise with industry, government and other universities.

“I look forward to following the valuable work and outcomes this partnership delivers, particularly for the regions where our campuses are based.”

In announcing the MoU, NSW Premier Mr Dominic Perrottet, MP, said the agreements are a critical part in positioning NSW as the leading Australian state for university and industry collaboration.

“NSW is home to some of the world’s leading universities and we want to strengthen our working relationships with the sector to commercialise research and develop world-leading local precincts where people live and create jobs,” he said.

The agreements provide more than 100 current and potential strategic opportunities to support innovation across areas such as big data, artificial intelligence, cyber security, clinical innovation, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, regional development and more.

The 11 universities that have signed the Innovation Partnerships agreement are:

  • Charles Sturt University
  • Australian Catholic University
  • Macquarie University
  • Southern Cross University
  • University of New England
  • University of New South Wales
  • University of Newcastle
  • University of Sydney
  • University of Technology Sydney
  • Western Sydney University
  • University of Wollongong
