The vital role played by regional communities in the development of Charles Sturt University (CSU) has been praised as celebrations get underway for the institution’s 20th anniversary in 2009.

The University was established when the Charles Sturt University Act was passed by the NSW Parliament in July 1989.
Professor Gorman highlighted the many ways in which members of CSU’s communities support the University including participation in University governance, generous financial support, industry placements or internships for students and employment of CSU graduates.
During the official opening of the 20th anniversary celebrations on Thursday 12 March, the late Foundation Chancellor of the University, Dr David Asimus, AO, was honoured with the launch of an Endowment in his name.
The Asimus Endowment for Agriculture will support essential teaching and research in agricultural sustainability.
In unveiling the Asimus Endowment, Pro-Chancellor Mr Ian MacIntosh, AM, identified agriculture and food production as the “most important sleeper issue for the next 20 years and beyond”.
