Vice-Chancellor and President of Charles Sturt University (CSU), Professor Ian Goulter, has congratulated rural Federal members on their election victories.
The University has rural campuses in Albury-Wodonga (Farrer: The Hon. Ms Sussan Ley, MP; Indi: The Hon. Ms Sophie Mirabella, MP), Bathurst (Calare: The Hon. Mr John Cobb, MP), Dubbo (Parkes: The Hon. Mr Mark Coulton, MP), Goulburn (Hume: The Hon. Mr Alby Schultz, MP), Orange (Calare: The Hon. Mr John Cobb, MP) and Wagga Wagga (Riverina: The Hon. Mr Michael McCormack, MP).
"Our local members have been a great source of support and advice over many years and we look forward to working with them again in the new Parliament," said Professor Goulter.
"I have contacted our local members over the last few days to extend our congratulations and to highlight our key priorities for the next parliamentary term.
"I would particularly like to welcome Mr Michael McCormack as the new Member for Riverina, who succeeds Ms Kay Hull who was a strong and committed supporter of Charles Sturt University over many years.”
Professor Goulter said it is clear that issues for rural and regional Australia, in particular, will figure prominently in the new Parliament.
"Charles Sturt University has always worked with Parliamentarians across its footprint to get the right policy settings and structural reforms needed to improve outcomes for rural communities,” he said.
"There is an extraordinary opportunity in this new Parliament to get the right policies and therefore the right investments which will have a lasting impact on the growth and development of regional communities.
"Our rural Parliamentary members know the important contribution Charles Sturt University has made in turning around regional workforce shortages in health, agriculture, education and other fields.
