Charles Sturt University has been awarded $30 000 worth of scholarships by the Federal Government for students to undertake an internship or work placement in Hong Kong under the New Colombo Plan.

The funding has been allocated CSU through the next round of the New Colombo Plan.

CSU Global Manager Dr Shevahn Telfser said, "Charles Sturt University is very excited to be able to offer $30 000 for scholarships.

"We are now spreading the word to encourage our students to apply for the scholarships through CSU Global."

The New Colombo Plan was launched by the federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Julie Bishop, MP in 2013 to provide Australian university students with the skills and experience needed to engage with the Indo-Pacific region.

Each eligible student at CSU will receive a $3 000 scholarship towards the costs of their program over the next 12 months. There are 10 scholarships to give away to undergraduate students.

'Students from various academic disciplines can benefit from these scholarships," Dr Telfser said. "An objective of the New Colombo Plan is to encourage students to undertake internships, meaningful industry experience and to develop international contacts.

"The structure of the mobility program is flexible with students needing to undertake a minimum of three weeks placement. However beyond that the program can be tailored to the needs of the individual."

Students are urged to contact CSU Global by telephone (02) 6338 4068 or email alwood@csu.edu.au  to discuss details relating to undertaking a program in Hong Kong.

Details of the funding and how to apply are also available on the CSU Global website.
