The occasional address will be delivered by Associate Professor Mark Briskey, the new Head of CSU’s Australian Graduate School of Policing at Manly, Sydney. Before joining CSU in 2008, Associate Professor Briskey served more than two decades as a police officer at state and federal level. He has worked with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) in Bangladesh, Indonesia and Pakistan. His expertise includes trans-national crimes such as human trafficking and counter terrorism, as well as expertise in South Asia and extremism.
In 2005, the former police officer received the AFP Commissioner’s Award for Excellence in Overseas Policing. The CSU academic also received the Indonesian National Police Chief’s citation for his work as part of the first deployment of AFP personnel flown to Bali by the RAAF in response to the 2002 bombings.
- Dr John Paget from Sydney will receive his Doctor of Public Policy, one of the highest awards available from CSU’s Australian Graduate School of Policing. His thesis, Human Rights and Prison Architecture: The Alexander Maconochie Centre from Conception to Construction explores the design, development and construction of the new prison in the ACT which was the first prison in Australia to be conceptualised, designed and constructed under a framework provided by human rights legislation, the ACT Human Rights Act 2004. The thesis is a timely contribution to the public debate about correctional facilities and human rights.
- A husband and wife from Sydney will graduate during the ceremony at Goulburn. Inspector Bernadette Beard will receive the Master of Arts (Criminal Intelligence) and her husband Detective Inspector Jonathon Beard will be awarded the Master of Management from CSU.
- Mr Mark Adams is Manager of Health and Safety with Australia’s largest gold producer Newcrest Mining Ltd at the company’s Cadia Valley Operations in central west NSW. He will receive a Graduate Certificate in Fire Investigation from CSU.
- Mr Tony Warwick, a senior investigator with the Western Australian Corruption and Crime Commission, will receive a Master of Leadership and Management (Policing).
- The Bev Lawson Memorial Award will be presented to Constable Amber Hawkins from Redfern, Sydney. She will receive two degrees including the Bachelor of Justice Studies (Policing) and the Associate Degree in Policing Practice with Distinction. Constable Hawkins is the first Bachelor of Justice Studies (Policing) to win the Bev Lawson Memorial Award.
- The Constable Education Program Medallion will be jointly presented to graduates of the Associate Degree in Policing Practice with Distinction Constable Mark Harris from Maitland and Constable Simon Meehan from Surry Hills.
