Bond University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Brailsford and Charles Sturt University (CSU) Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Garry Marchant, have made a friendly wager ahead of the CSU NSW Country Eagles versus Bond University Queensland Country rugby union match.
The CSU NSW Country Eagles will play Bond University-backed Country Queensland side at Bond University on the Gold Coast in the second round of the National Rugby Championship (NRC) at 3pm on Saturday 30 August.
The Vice-Chancellors have agreed that the winning University's flag will be flown from the flagpole of the other University for two days in the week following the match.
"Our universities share a commitment to producing graduates who excel in all aspects of their lives – academic, sporting and cultural" said Professor Marchant.
"Rural Australians share a common experience off the field, but there is a long history of rivalry between NSW Country and Queensland Country on the field.
"This will be a very tough contest, but we are looking forward to the CSU Flag flying above Bond University following the game," said Professor Marchant.
Professor Brailsford said, "I know the Queensland Country team is looking forward to the game, particularly being their first outing. The team includes a couple of Bond boys so there will be good local support. Moreover, some healthy rivalry across the border is welcome."
The Eagles are on top of the championship table after one round, having run out 31-2 winners over the Greater Sydney Rams in the season opener on Saturday 23 August, while the highly-fancied Queensland side sat out a bye.
