CSU student Ms Kate Mitchell.A veterinary science student at Charles Sturt University (CSU) is heading north during her mid-year break from studies to learn more about the international beef industry at Calgary in Canada.

Mr Kate Mitchell, from Binalong in southern NSW, has secured an international scholarship to attend the 2014 International Livestock Conference in Calgary in the province of Alberta in July.

Funded by the Canadian Cattleman's Association, the scholarship is awarded to 20 agricultural and animal science based students from around the world. The program aims to give students the opportunity to meet beef industry leaders, students studying in similar fields and network with potential future employers.

Ms Mitchell's successful application to the Association follows a similar path trod by two CSU students in 2013. Read more in CSU News here.

Ms Mitchell said, "I am absolutely thrilled to have this chance to attend the Conference in Calgary. I really hope to broaden my understanding of the international beef industry and the role that veterinarians play in this industry.

"I also hope to meet a lot of like-minded people and develop some international connections. I am really looking forward to attending the well known Calgary Stampede on Friday 11 July."

Ms Mitchell is in her fourth year of a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology/Veterinary Science at the School of Agricultural and Wine Sciences at CSU in Wagga Wagga.
