
Thousands expected for CSU graduations in Bathurst

Thousands of family members and friends of graduates are expected to throng to the city when the annual graduation ceremonies are held at CSU in Bathurst next week. Approximately 1 195 graduates will receive their academic awards from Chancellor Lawrie Willett, AO, at six graduation ceremonies on Wednesday 5, Thursday 6 and Friday 7 May with a combined guest attendance expected to be about 4 000. A further 838 students will graduate in absentia.

10.30am Wednesday 5 May – Faculty of Business; postgraduate and undergraduate banking, finance, economics, marketing, management, accounting and business studies courses only. Approximately 224 graduates at this session, with approximately 739 guests. The Occasional Address will be delivered by Professor Kevin Parton, the Head of Campus at CSU in Orange, and Strategic Research Professor in the CSU Institute of Land, Water and Society.
A graduating student of note at this session is Ms Nicolette Dingley who is graduating with a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) with Distinction and is the winner of four prizes – the Sidney Myer Fund Prize, CPA Australia Prize 3, the Institute of Chartered Accountants Prize for the Most Outstanding Accounting Graduating Student, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants Prize in Final Year Accounting.
2.30pm Wednesday 5 May – Faculty of Science; Nursing, Midwifery, Health Sciences, Clinical Practice/Pre-Hospital Care. Approximately 155 graduates at this session, with approximately 501 guests. The Occasional Address will be delivered by Professor Anne McMurray, AM, Professor of Nursing at Murdoch University, WA, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing.
A graduating student of note at this session is Ms Fiona Martin who is graduating with a Bachelor of Nursing with Distinction and is the winner of two prizes – the Pearson Education Prize, and the Royal College of Nursing Australia High Achiever Award.
10.30am Thursday 6 May – Faculty of Education; all undergraduate courses in the School of Teacher Education, except for Bachelor of Primary Education Studies and Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary). Approximately 227 graduates at this session, with approximately 737 guests. The Occasional Address will be delivered by Professor Sharynne McLeod, the Professor of Speech and Language Acquisition in the School of Teacher Education in Bathurst, and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow. The title of her address is Every child is important.
2.30pm Thursday 6 May – Faculty of Education; all postgraduate courses as well as Bachelor of Primary Education Studies and Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary). Approximately 116 graduates at this session, with approximately 373 guests. The Occasional Address will be delivered by Mr Andy Harper, a former leading football player who played 321 games for seven clubs in Australia’s National Soccer League. He’s now a media sports commentator and author, and inaugural chief executive of A-League club Sydney FC.
A student of note at this session is Bathurst resident Ms Wendy Hastings who will receive her PhD for her thesis A construction of site-based teacher educators’ subjectivities in difficult practicum relationships: conduct unbecoming.
10.30am Friday 7 May – Faculty of Arts, and Faculty of Business; Bachelor of Social Sciences (Emergency Management), psychology and education double degrees. Bachelor of IT, and Bachelor of Computer Science, Graduate Certificate and Master of Management (IT) and postgraduate Project Management degrees. Approximately 223 graduates at this session, with approximately 710 guests. The Occasional Address will be delivered by Associate Professor Leonora Ritter, former Head of the School of Social Sciences and Liberal Studies in Bathurst, and an Honorary Fellow in the CSU Division of Learning and Teaching. The title of her address is Making the world a better place.
A student of note at this session is Mr Stephen Young, who is graduating with a Master of Emergency Management, whose project examined Post-war reconstruction in Iraq from the perspective of emergency services.
2.30pm Friday 7 May – Faculty of Arts; School of Communication and Creative Industries. Approximately 176 graduates at this session, with approximately 547 guests. The Occasional Address will be delivered by Mr Mervyn Bishop, a celebrated photographer and the first Indigenous press photographer employed by the Sydney Morning Herald in 1962.
