Towards 2011

8 JUNE 2006

Plans for achieving excellence in learning, teaching and research at Charles Sturt University over the next five years have been given the green light.

Plans for achieving excellence in learning, teaching and research at Charles Sturt University (CSU) over the next five years have been given the green light.

The University’s governing body, the CSU Council has accepted recommendations for the realignment of the University’s five Faculties into a four Faculty structure from 2007.

“The University identified a need to realign the Faculties so the academic structure of CSU fits in with the objectives of the new University Strategy 2007-2011 and its vision for a national university for excellence in education for the professions, strategic and applied research and flexible delivery of learning and teaching,” said Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Ross Chambers.

The changes, approved by the CSU Council on Tuesday 6 June, include consolidating science based programs into a single Faculty of Agricultural and Health Sciences and linking the fields of IT and Commerce into a Faculty of Commerce and Computing. The other two Faculties will be a Faculty of Arts and a Faculty of Education.

The structure of the Schools which sit within these four Faculties is still under discussions within the University and will be considered for final approval by CSU Council later this year.

Two of the key goals in the University Strategy 2007-2011 include maintaining and extending CSU’s position as a national leader in distance and flexible learning and providing excellence in practicum and clinical based learning.

“To these ends, CSU will establish an Institute for Distance and Flexible Learning and an Institute for Practicum and Clinical Learning. The two Institutes will be linked to the University’s Faculties and the University’s existing Centre for Enhancing Learning and Teaching (CELT) which currently works with academic staff in designing effective learning environments and developing learning resources.
