Enrolment numbers at CSU

23 JULY 2003

Claims that Charles Sturt University could lose more than 2 500 student places under proposed higher education reforms have been firmly rejected by CSU Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor David Battersby.

Claims that Charles Sturt University (CSU) could lose more than 2 500 student places under proposed higher education reforms have been firmly rejected by CSU Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor David Battersby.

“Most of these places are associated with our very successful policing initiatives located at Goulburn.  However under the proposed reforms, a new category covering employer/industry courses would be introduced. This category would absorb policing students enrolled at Charles Sturt University, ensuring no loss of places,” said Professor Battersby

“We have already had discussions with the Commonwealth Government about this matter and have been reassured by their response,” said Professor Battersby.

“CSU expects to enrol the same number of students in 2004 as it had done in 2003 and any suggestion hundreds of student places are at risk is misleading,” said Professor Battersby.

Charles Sturt University continues to review the reform package on proposed changes to the higher education sector and awaits the outcome of the Senate’s inquiry into the reforms.
