A Prof Franziska TredeCharles Sturt University (CSU) will host the 5th international Practice-based Education Summit 2015 in Sydney in mid April.

Summit chair, Associate Professor Franziska Trede in the CSU Education for Practice Institute, said the title and theme for the Practice-based Education Summit 2015 is 'Professionalism and citizenship: possibilities for professional education'.

"This year's summit title was chosen to stimulate discussion about values, principles and strategies that are required in university professional education to produce capable professionals and ethical citizens," Professor Trede said.

"Higher education around the world is experiencing fast-paced, radical changes that affect our research and teaching practices. The summit provides an opportunity and space to scrutinise and revise the motivations and assumptions that should drive professional education today to prepare our graduates for the future."

Professor Trede said the organisers are very pleased with the quality of scholarly papers that address the summit themes.

"We are also pleased to welcome the six speakers for the two symposia on citizenship and professionalism," she said.

"The symposium speakers come from diverse fields of practices, and two very experienced moderators, CSU's Professor Joy Higgs and Professor Geoff Scott from the University of Western Sydney, will guide these sessions."

There are two keynote speakers, Professor Melanie Walker from the University of the Free State in South Africa, and Professor Trevor Gale from Deakin University in Victoria, Australia. Both are global authorities in their respective fields of university education for capabilities and professionalism, and social justice and citizenship.

Other presenters include CSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Vann, CSU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Garry Marchant, CSU Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Sandra Wills, and Professor of Education and Presiding Officer of the CSU Academic Senate Professor Jo-Anne Reid.

The 5th international Practice-based Education Summit 2015 will be held at Waterview in Bicentennial Park at Sydney Olympic Park on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 April.
