- Charles Sturt University presents the annual EngFest 2024 in Bathurst to celebrate the dynamic and vital role of engineering in the world
- EngFest 2024 is on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 June with up to 70 high school students attending from Coonamble, Bathurst, Portland and Orange
- Engineers Australia will present an expert forum on ‘Resilience and water’ from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday 4 June
Students, community members and engineering cadets and professionals will come together at the annual EngFest 2024 at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst this week to learn and share ideas about how engineering is vital to the world we live in.
EngFest is two days of events for schools, industry, prospective students and community members on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 June at Charles Sturt Engineering (building 1305) at the campus in Bathurst.
Professor Tim Anderson, Director of Charles Sturt Engineering in the School of Computing, Mathematics and Engineering said EngFest is Charles Sturt’s annual celebration of engineering.
“EngFest hosts exhibitions and presentations of student works and research, school visits and information sessions, a careers expo, industry networking, professional development events and more,” Professor Anderson said.
“It brings together students, cadet and professional engineers, researchers, representatives of Engineers Australia and interested members of the public”
Professor Anderson said Australia continues to face ongoing shortages of engineers and it is vitally important that school students, in particular, grasp the opportunity to join the varied and dynamic profession that is engineering.
“Engineering is not about mathematics and science, it’s about people and their aspirations for a better life: for themselves, their family, and their friends,” he said. “But most people don’t really know what engineers do. As a society it’s important that we acknowledge that engineering is a professional discipline with many roles and career paths, and is far more than just building smoother roads, faster cars, and smarter electronics.”
“We invite you to come along to meet the engineers of tomorrow and see what the future of engineering holds.”
On ‘Schools Day’ on Tuesday 4 June, up to 70 high school students will attend a full day of educational workshops, at which students will engage in exciting hands-on activities with engineering concepts that replicate real-world projects.
Students will attend from Coonamble High School, Denison College Bathurst High, Portland Central School, Skillset Senior College and James Sheahan Catholic High School.
On Wednesday 5 June, senior high school and mature age students who are interested in studying engineering at Charles Sturt will join a presentation on what it’s like to study Engineering at Charles Sturt and attend a Careers Expo.
Participants will hear from current students about their cadetships in industry, meet academics and representatives of engineering industry at the expo where they can learn about the engineering courses and engineering career opportunities.
