Charles Sturt University (CSU) has a range of experts available for comment on the threat that avian influenza (strain H5N1) poses for Australia.

These experts, based across CSU’s campuses, cover a range of issues and can offer a variety of perspectives on this problem:
  • John Glastonbury, Associate Professor in Diagnostic Pathology with CSU’s School of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, for comment on emergency management of the disease in poultry, avian influenza and how it behaves, a history of other outbreaks and its threat to people.
  • David Roshier, migrating waterfowl researcher with the University’s Institute for Land, Water and Society, is involved in research into water birds in Australia, particularly the movement of water birds.
  • Emergency management expert and CSU School of Public Health lecturer Ian Manock, who coordinates the University’s emergency management courses, for comment on planning at Federal, State and community level.
CSU’s Institute for Land, Water and Society is also hosting a free public forum in Albury looking at local perspectives on avian influenza. The forum includes CSU and other local experts to address various aspects of such an outbreak and its possible effects on human and bird health.
