Students graduate in Ontario

An Australian living in Burlington who was inspired by his Canadian wife to change careers is one of almost 200 Bachelor of Primary Education Studies students to graduate at ceremonies to be held at Charles Sturt University Ontario on Friday 5 June.

An Australian living in Burlington who was inspired by his Canadian wife to change careers is one of almost 200 Bachelor of Primary Education Studies students to graduate at ceremonies to be held at Charles Sturt University (CSU) Ontario on Friday 5 June.
 
Graduates celebrate at CSU in Ontario in 2009.Formerly a chartered accountant, Mr Rob Finlay is among 195 students expected to graduate with the Bachelor of Primary Education Studies at the morning ceremony commencing at 10am at the Burlington Convention Center. In the afternoon ceremony, commencing at 3pm, 102 students will graduate from a diverse mix of CSU courses including:
  • three from the Faculty of Arts
  • three from the Faulty of Business
  • 21 from the Faculty of Education, and
  • 74 from the Faculty of Science
Degrees to be presented during the Faculty of Science ceremony include:
  • Bachelor and Master of Applied Science (Medical Imaging)
  • Master of Applied Science (Medical Ultrasound)
  • Bachelor and Master of Health Science (Nursing)
  • Master of Health Services Management
  • Bachelor of Medical and Applied Biotechnology
The occasional address at the morning ceremony will be delivered by Mr Justin Brown, the Australian High Commissioner to Canada.
 
Professor John Hicks, the Dean of the Faculty of Business will deliver the occasional address at the afternoon ceremony.
 
CSU Chancellor Mr Lawrie Willett and Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Ian Goulter will travel to Canada to present the awards.
 
Graduation highlights include:
  • Mr Rob Finlay, an Australian living in Burlington, is graduating this year with a Bachelor of Primary Education Studies. He has followed in the footsteps of his Canadian wife, Stephanie, who graduated from the course in 2007 and has enjoyed the challenge and enjoyment in her new career as a primary school teacher.  “The CSU program lived up to my expectations and after a fulfilling year I’m looking forward to applying my knowledge and skills in a classroom of my own,” he said.
  • Winners of the annual ACE (Attitude, Collaboration, Enthusiasm) Award are Bachelor of Primary Education Studies graduates, Mr Ciaran Gearty and Mr Kevin Foster who were selected by their peers for their initiative and commitment, collaborative problem solving and effective communication skills. They will provide the graduate vote of thanks to the Occasional Speaker at the morning ceremony.
  • Ms Manor Cooper, CSU Ontario’s Campus Manager will graduate in the afternoon ceremony with a Masters in Education (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).   Manor has worked in Canada for the past year and will return to Australia in August to continue her position in the Faculty of Business.
  • Ms Tiffany Barker completed her practical professional experience in Albury, NSW, Australia, and heads back to Ontario to graduate with a Bachelor of Primary Education Studies.

 These graduation ceremonies follow consent given by the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities in Ontario, the Hon. John Milloy in April for the University to offer a Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies, Master of Business Administration and Master of International Education (School Leadership) from Burlington, Ontario.
