The Jill Salter Memorial Women in Rural Health Scholarship continues to bring hope for Charles Sturt University health sciences students 36 years after Jill’s untimely death.
Charles Sturt University thanks the Zonta Club of Orange for its ongoing support of students pursuing health-related degrees at Charles Sturt through the Jill Salter Memorial Scholarship.
Jill Salter was a radiographer and member of the Zonta Club of Orange, who tragically died in a motor vehicle accident on the Mitchell Highway in 1988 on her way to work in Bathurst.
In honour of Jill’s memory, her family established this scholarship through the Zonta Club of Orange.
The scholarship is worth $3,000 and is available for continuing female students who are completing any health-related undergraduate degree in the Charles Sturt Faculty of Science and Health in Orange.
Chief Executive of the Charles Sturt University Foundation Trust Ms Sarah Ansell thanked Jill’s family and the Zonta Club of Orange for their generous and ongoing support of the University.
“Jill was greatly respected by her peers and had a lasting impact on patients and those around her, and her death was a terrible tragedy,” Ms Ansell said.
“We are very grateful and honoured that Jill’s memory can live on through this scholarship support in her name.”
Ms Frances Young from the Zonta Club of Orange said it was important to the club to continue to pay tribute to Jill through the scholarship.
“Jill was a much-loved member of the club who gave so much that she became president soon after she joined,” she said.
“We will always remember her, and this scholarship is a way we can continue to encourage health students to maximise their studies to hopefully one day contribute to health care the way Jill did.”
Development Manager of the Charles Sturt Advancement Office Mr Justin Williams said the relationships Charles Sturt has with its community of supporters are extremely valuable, and expressed thanks on behalf of the University for supporting students to complete their education in such a meaningful way.
“The Charles Sturt community is so grateful for the generous support of our donors,” Mr Williams said. “Without it, many students would not be able to achieve their dreams of obtaining a university education.
“For our students, the university has made the scholarship application process very smooth and accessible for anyone who is curious to find out what scholarship options are available to them.
“It’s easy to find out what students might be eligible for by visiting our Charles Sturt scholarships page to view the extensive list of scholarships available.
“We even have a video on our scholarships page that helps students to look for scholarships that suit their needs.”
Applications are open for the Jill Salter Memorial Scholarship and close 5pm on Monday 10 February 2025.
