Dr David Asimus' passion for agriculture and commitment to CSU has led to the establishment of the Asimus Endowment for Agriculture in honour of the former Chancellor of CSU.

“It takes a noble man to plant a seed for a tree that will some day give shade to people he may never meet.”

Dr David Asimus’ passion for agriculture and commitment to Charles Sturt University (CSU) has led to the establishment of the Asimus Endowment for Agriculture in honour of the former Chancellor of CSU.

The Endowment will support critical teaching and research in agricultural sustainability to ensure that the agriculture sector in Australia is equipped to meet the challenges facing the nation, and indeed the world, now and into the future.

Dr Asimus, AO, was elected as the University’s foundation Chancellor in 1989, a position he held until 2002. His death in January 2008 led to an outpouring of praise for his contributions to business, government and tertiary education.

The Asimus Endowment for Agriculture will be launched during the opening ceremony on Thursday 12 March of the 20th anniversary of Charles Sturt University.

“Initially it is hoped that at least $3 million will be raised by the Endowment to establish the Asimus Distinguished Chair in Agriculture,” said the Vice-Chancellor and President of CSU, Professor Ian Goulter.

“Substantial resources will be attached to the Chair to allow its occupant to pursue international research into one of David Asimus’ passions – agricultural sustainability.”

“I expect the Endowment will be well supported in honour of the late Chancellor’s lifetime work for Australian agriculture, our inland rural communities and Charles Sturt University’s teaching and research in agriculture.”

The Endowment will be managed by the Charles Sturt University Trustee – the Charles Sturt Foundation Limited.
