Twenty Charles Sturt University (CSU) paramedic students will gain practical work experience and enhance their employment options when they work with ambulance services in a range of settings in New Zealand in November.
Ms Sonja Maria, lecturer in pre-hospital care at the CSU School of Biomedical Sciences in Bathurst, will accompany and supervise a group of 10 male and 10 female paramedic students from first-year to fourth-year for the 16-day visit.
“I’m delighted that CSU Global is able to support this opportunity for our students to ‘cross the ditch’ and experience life as a working paramedic in New Zealand,” Ms Maria said.
“This program will offer the full cultural experience of living and working in several different ambulance service environments, with four on-road placements from small East Cape communities to the bustle of the capital city, Wellington, and earthquake -ravaged Christchurch.
“It is a great opportunity to enhance the students’ training and will make them job-ready, as well as provide them with greater post-graduation employment options and career mobility.
“The students will not only have an opportunity to work with a range of ambulance crews, but we will also go to Queenstown to experience some of the fun that only the New Zealand great outdoors has to offer, including jet boat rides, bungy jumping, and other dare devil opportunities.”
The paramedic students depart on Friday 1 November and return on Saturday 16 November.
