Charles Sturt University (CSU) Port Macquarie student Mr Luke Jennings will be taking CSU to the world when he attends the Australasian Soccer Academy's upcoming tour of England and Spain.
Mr Jennings is in his second year of a Bachelor of Justice Studies (Policing) degree and is looking forward to becoming a police officer.
CSU is assisting Mr Jennings financially with a $500 elite athlete grant towards the cost of the tour.
"Being sponsored by Charles Sturt University enables me to engage with other young students that I will meet across Europe," Mr Jennings said.
"Thanks to the generosity of the University, I will be able to promote the University when I am overseas as well as on my return. I am very appreciative of its support."
Mr Jennings plays as goalkeeper for Port United in the Mid North Coast Premier League. He recently travelled to Sydney to showcase his skills in a trial for the Australasian Soccer Academy.
During the Australasian Soccer Academy's tour, the Australian soccer teams will play against other youth teams that include Manchester City, Sporting Lisbon, and Real Madrid.
Mr Jennings acknowledged there will be challenges while he's on tour but there's one thing that is uppermost on his mind.
"I am really hoping to impress the scouts from the overseas clubs to try and gain a professional contract," Mr Jennings said.
The 21-day tour coincides with the NSW school holidays schedule. The group will leave on Monday 22 September and return on Wednesday 8 October.
